Team. The theatre collective Oblivia was founded in Helsinki in 2000 and has since made a name for itself internationally with audiences and critics. Oblivia bring complex worlds of thought to the stage with a light hand and fine wit. Linguistic, dramatic and dance means combine to create an unmistakable style. The musical works of the Chinese composer Yiran Zhao aim for the interdisciplinary and often include elements of the performing arts as well as those of the visual arts. Since 2014, they have been interpreted by renowned contemporary music ensembles and performed at renowned festivals.
Project. As part of a celebrated collaboration with Yiran Zhao for the Stuttgart festival “Eclat”, Oblivia ventured into the special realm of music theatre for the first time in February 2020. The continuation of this collaboration within the framework of the feXm project “Obsessions” now includes musicians and singers from the ensembles of the participating theatres and, for the first time, other actors in addition to Oblivia’s performers. Three singers, three performers and six musicians wander through space and time, roaming the field of the political and the private and playfully unmasking the power of desire as the driving force of human behaviour.
First production house: Theater Bremen (premiere: 19.02.2022). Afterwards “Obsessions” will be further developed at the Wuppertal Opera (premiere: 03.12.2022).
Dates: 19.02.2022, 8:00 pm (premiere)
