The NRW KULTURsekretariat (North Rhine-Westphalian Office of Culture / NRWKS) is a cultural funding initiative of the 21 theatre- and orchestra- supporting cities in NRW and the LVR Rhineland. Together with the cities and municipal, supra-regional and international cultural partners, it initiates, promotes and organises programmes, projects and events in the fields of theatre, music, visual arts, literature and dance financed by state funds – often in an interdisciplinary and experimental way. The focus is on international and digital culture as well as on the topics of diversity and interculture. The NRWKS connects actors and multipliers from all cultural fields, provides impulses in cultural policy discourses and is also involved in the initiative “DIE VIELEN“. In close cooperation with the NRW Ministry of Culture, it manages the “International Visitors Program” and, since the end of 2018, the profile funding programme “New Paths” for municipal theaters and orchestras in NRW. In addition, the NRWKS receives annual special funding from the state for the “New Music Theater Fund“.
The Kunststiftung NRW promotes art and culture that are characterised by programmatic features and impulse-giving concepts and have a close connection to North Rhine-Westphalia. In addition, the promotion of particularly talented young artists and international cultural exchange is one of the central tasks of the foundation, which is professionally supervised by a competent and effective team and accompanied by a 27-member board of trustees. With its funding policy, the foundation challenges the public to take more risks and improve quality in art and culture. An essential selection criterion for funding decisions is the artistic quality and innovative conception of the projects. Individual funding measures and the support of experimental concepts are given equal status with major artistic projects of supraregional significance.
