01.07.2022 – Premiere of “Kitesh” at the Bremen Theatre
After a long corona-related delay, the opulent music theatre project “Kitesh” by the collective “Hauen und Stechen” is now finding its way to Bremen. The premiere at the Theater am Goetheplatz and in the public space in front of it will take place on 7 July 2022. Further performances can be experienced there on 8 and 9 July.
The production took its first stage of development in 2020 at the Halle Opera. Due to Corona’s illness, only two performances could be given, performances planned for the Wuppertal Opera had to be cancelled and the continuing work in Bremen had to be postponed.
The project is based on Rimsky-Korsakov’s late romantic opera “The Legend of the Invisible City of Kitezh”. In Halle, the team led by Franziska Kronfoth (director) and Roman Lemberg (musical adaptation) already took the first step towards a scenic and musical transcription, which will now be continued in Bremen. He is assisted by the composer Alexander Chernyshkov with contemporary interventions in the romantic sound language of the opera. Hauen und Stechen” focus on the loss of utopia in our times in their examination of Rimsky-Korsakov. The audience appears involved in a collective evocation of the dream of a better life.
“Kitesh” is a cross-disciplinary project involving members of the Bremen Opera Ensemble and the Drama Ensemble. The performance begins as a station theatre in the public space around the Bremen Theatre before the audience finally finds its way to the stage.
