16.05.2023 – “Fundstadt”: Premiere in Bremen and Gelsenkirchen
“NOperas!” invites you to the next round: On 2 June, HIATUS’ “Fundstadt” will celebrate its premiere at Theater Bremen as the fourth world premiere of the funding initiative supported by the NRW KULTURsekretariat and the Kunststiftung NRW. The premiere at the Musiktheater im Revier Gelsenkirchen follows on 16 June.
“Fundstadt” is a music-theatrical audio and video walk. It takes the audience on a tour that leads from the theatre to the public space and finally back to the theatre. With tablets in hand that provide orientation, the audience follows a kind of scavenger hunt. They see and hear the world through the eyes and ears of children, encountering strange creatures and equally strange events both live and on their tablets. The action centres around the experiences of three children from different social backgrounds from the participating cities of Bremen and Gelsenkirchen. Within the framework of the development of the piece, the children act as co-creators on an essential level by inventing sound-image ideas which they realise together with professional musicians, visual artists and a theatre maker. The ensemble HIATUS works with them on an equal footing and offers them extensive visual and compositional scope for describing the reality of their lives. Singers and orchestral musicians from both theatres are involved.
“Fundstadt” is being developed in cooperation with the Zurich “Blickfelder Festival”. In June 2022, it was preceded by an installation work entitled “Vier Viertel” (Four Quarters), which initially tested the element of audio and video walks without the participation of live actors.
