The attempt to order the disorderly determines our lives. Even in the greatest chaos we try to discover principles of order and make them useful for us. Where chaos reigns, we try to create our own systems. How else could we find our way through everyday life?
For the music theatre production “Chaosmos” the composer Marc Sinan, the author Tobias Rausch and the director Konrad Kästner dealt with our fear of chaos and with the nature of human systems of order. What sense do they make, what nonsense? Are they perhaps in vain, and who do they actually serve in the end?
Now “Chaosmos – the film” is coming out – the corona-related further development of the joint project of three music theatre houses and two funding institutions, within the framework of the funding initiative “NOperas! On Saturday, 05.12.2020 at 20:00 o’clock “Chaosmos – the film” celebrates its premiere in the live stream on nachtkritik.de.
The film version is an exhilarating trip through the logistics centre of our world, in which the warehouse workers Jay and Joe try to separate order from chaos and sense from madness. The film consists of a total of 24 parts, which will be available after the premiere on this website as well as on chaosmos.info and other web portals. There the videos can be viewed chronologically or in any order, in one piece or in individual parts. This system meets the individual need of the audience for order and at the same time opens up new and fascinating perspectives.
With “Chaosmos”, the Experimental Music Theater Fund (feXm) of NRW KULTURsekretariat und Kunststiftung NRW has launched its new funding initiative “NOperas!” for the 2019/2020 season.
“Chaosmos” premiered in January 2020 as an opera for 4 soloists, orchestra and forklift at the Wuppertal Opera. The other planned performances at the Opera Halle and the Theatre Bremen had to be cancelled due to COVID-19. The film was produced in accordance with the idea of cooperation with participants of the Wuppertal premiere and singers from the Halle Opera ensemble as well as guests.
