Since its opening in 1959, the Musiktheater im Revier Gelsenkirchen, or “MiR” for short, has been considered one of the outstanding theatres of the post-war period. Since the 2008/09 season it has been under the direction of General Director Michael Schulz. The MiR stages up to 20 productions per season. Gelsenkirchen’s involvement with contemporary music and contemporary music theatre goes back to the 1970s to the “Studio for Experimental Music” led by Carla Henius. In addition to the classical repertoire of opera, operetta and musicals and its own productions with reference to the region, the MiR has also devoted itself in depth to forms of contemporary music theatre to this day. With Kötter/Seidl’s project “ingolf”, the MiR was already a partner theatre of the Experimental Music Theatre Fund in the 2016/17 season.
